Last week, Metallica finally finished mixing and mastering their ninth studio album of original material titled “Death Magnetic,” which hits the streets worldwide on Friday, September 12.
It was produced by Rick Rubin and recorded at Sound City Studios, Shangri La Studios, and their very own headquarters! The first track and video, “The Day That Never Comes,” will hit the airwaves later this month.
In addition, you’ll be able to download every song from “Death Magnetic” for the video game “Guitar Hero III” the same day the album comes out!

Mission: Metallica now has a ton of videos, pictures, and contests up on their site, and more still to come! They just announced 36 countries are now on board with more joining next week.
Also , all seven shows from the second leg of their European summer vacation as well as Ozzfest are now available for download!

On August 4th, 2008, Metallica sent a cryptic e-mail titled “The Last Piece of the Puzzle.” The e-mail enclosed an image stating the album “Death Magnetic — September 12, Worldwide“. Metallica also has it posted on their myspace blog.
Metallica has also posted the following message on their official web site:
“We shot a video… nah, more like a short film really….for the first featured track from ‘Death Magnetic’. Directed by fellow Dane/filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg, we spent the better part of the afternoon playing ‘The Day That Never Comes’ to a sold-out crowd of dust and smoke just outside of Los Angeles, CA…. Should be ready to share with all of you at the end of the month, give or take…more to come.”
